Are you more impressed with the film or the story? Why?
I was impressed more by the story. I enjoyed the film but all around I was more impressed by the story. I felt like there were things the movie didn’t show or talk about that the story did. I think the story shows a different side of victor we didn’t see in the movie. A softer friendly side of him is described. The friendship between Thomas and Victor comes through as well. They have a friendship built from when they were kids, and you see how guilty victor feels for beating Thomas up and their friendship in a way growing apart.
I think the story also made it easier to understand some scenes in the movie. Like when Victor was beating up Thomas, they didn’t say why in the movie. They just showed a scene of him beating Thomas up. I was lost about that. But after I read the story that scene in the movie made a lot more since to me. I think all around the story helped back up the movie in a lot of ways.
Hi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteI understand your point about the film lacking some of the explanations we get in the story.
The flashbacks in the film are supposed to help the audience understand where Victor is coming from and why he takes out his anger on Thomas.
Thanks for your observations.
Take care,
Lauren
Hello, I also agree with you, the story was way better. It help me understand the plots and concepts more. We found out that in the movie, Victor was a very mean guy, and didn't give things a chance easily. In the story he was the opposite. He was more nicer, respectful towards Thomas, and didn't hate things as much.
ReplyDeleteHe also shows compassion towards his father, in the movie someone had to persuade him to see his father, but in the story he willingly does it on his own. The story shows a better side of him, a side that makes the readers happy to read. The movie was too much violence, his father an alcoholic, and him always acting mad. He was such a stubborn person in the movie, I'm glad his heart changed in the story. He was made to become a better person, to act appropriately, especially around Thomas.
Thanks, I'm glad you agree with me
Lesley
Hi Sam,
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with you that the story was better than the movie. Although, I found it quite interesting to have watched the movie and then read the story. I found the story having much more details of Victor and Thomas's friendship. It seemed as if there were more details of friendship and bonding in the story. Normally I would have enjoyed the movie more but in this case I enjoyed the story more but liked having the two of them to put eveything in perspective. Thanks for sharing.
Dina
Sam,
ReplyDeleteYour right there were certain concepts that the story had that the film didn't. I also agree when you say that the story made it easier to understand the film. It was like a guide to the film, but at the same time the film went in to better depth. I feel like the film helped me realize that Victor's father brought them closer together.

Sam,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the story was much more entertaining than the movie. The story just gave so much more details that the movie left out. Even though the movie to most people would probably be the way to go because its easier to watch a story than to read it, the story in my opinion just caught my attention more so than the movie did. It gave us details like you mentioned about the fight between thomas and victor that the movie didnt. Thank you for your insights.
Sam,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the fight got your attention the most. This part also had some effect on me as well because i grew up with a younger and older brother so sibling fights are nothing new to me but it also brought back memories for me. In the film it actually did give a good explanation of Victor beating up Thomas. Thomas made a remark about Victor's father who was an alcoholic who abandoned his family so it was a touchy subject and Victor has a short temper. Thank you for your time.
